Modern Colonic Hydrotherapy retains all the principles and benefits of cleansing the colon in a gentle way using modern sterile equipment available today.

Colonic Hydrotherapy devices form completely enclosed systems. Following the completion of a comprehensive medical questionnaire and a very brief rectal examination, a small sterile tube called a speculum is inserted a few centimetres into the rectum. Slowly water heated to around body temperature, enters the body under very low pressure through the water inlet pipe attached to the speculum.

Although a lot of water passes through the system only a small amount enters the colon at any one time, just enough to encourage the bowel to contract and eliminate waste. Gentle massage may be used to encourage the release of stored waste.

Any waste, gas and water pass out of the body through an outlet pipe also attached to the speculum and piped away. This means there is no smell or risk of contamination. All tubing and speculum are sterile and disposable so used for only one patient. Your modesty is respected and preserved at all times.

A typical Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment will last around 45 minutes. Depending on the individual history a number of treatments may be recommended. No fasting is necessary before a treatment but a large meal or a lot to drink just before a treatment are not recommended.
