Why?
The large intestine, bowel or colon is primarily an organ of waste elimination. It is also used to absorb vital water and digestive salts into the body and also stores 'friendly' bacteria that produce essential vitamins. It is clear to see that if the colon is not functioning properly this will soon have an effect on the whole body.
Many people in the UK today do not have a bowel movement each day – this is constipation. Faeces gradually become compacted within the bowel making it harder and harder to pass out of the body. As the food remains in the body it can begin to decompose and ferment within the bowel and, if left too long, release toxins into the bowel which are absorbed into the rest of the body.
Much of this constipation can be put down to our busy, modern lifestyles:-
eating processed food with little fruit and vegetables so there is not enough roughage in the dietnot drinking sufficient water for the bodies needs so the bowel extracts so much water from the faeces it becomes solid and hard to passlack of exercise, which stimulates bowel actioneating 'on the run' so food is not chewed properly meaning the digestive tract has to work hard to extract the nutrients, slowing progress through the bowelignoring the bowels urge to open. Ignoring the urge to defaecate for whatever reason causes the bowel to become atonic ('lazy').Normal food transit time (the time from mouth to anus) is 24 hours with at least one bowel movement per day. However, it is reported that on average food transit time for adults in the UK is around 60 hours. This means even with one 'normal' bowel movement per day, food is held within the bowel for too long.
Toxins passing from the bowel into the rest of the body puts a heavy load on other excretory systems such as the lungs, kidneys and skin and especially overworks the liver.
In addition to clearing waste in the colon, Colon Hydrotherapy also removes mucous, gas and accumulated debris which has, over time, attached itself to the wall of the colon, reducing it's ability to absorb nutrients properly.
It is very important not only to clear accumulated matter from within the colon but to also improve the action of the bowel for the future. Colon Hydrotherapy does this as the action of placing water into the bowel causes it to squeeze hard (peristalsis) to expel the water. This builds up tone in the bowel making future contractions stronger and the bowel far better at expelling waste.
The benefits that can be seen following a session (or course) of Colon Hydrotherapy are:-
reduction in constipation, bloating and flatulenceimprovement in the colon's ability to expel wastea feeling of well-being and energyimprovement in skin problemsbetter digestion of food and absorption of nutrientsrelief from the symptoms of IBS.
